Your computer must be connected to the internet in order to access the College's license server. The UW site license is provided by the College of Engineering. SolidWorks is currently used by over 2 million engineers and designers at more than 165,000 companies worldwide. SolidWorks is a 3D mechanical CAD (computer aided design) program that runs on Microsoft Windows and is being developed by Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp.
SolidWorks may be requested from the College of Engineering Software ordering site. See this link describing what is included in the different versions. $2,750 for Solidworks Premium (new), $1000 yearly renewal. $1,500 for Solidworks Professional (new), $750 yearly renewal. $1,000 for Solidworks Standard (new), $500 yearly renewal. The software is leased on an annual basis and needs to be renewed each June.
Bothell and Tacoma researchers need to contact a VAR, such as Hawk Ridge Systems, and obtain their own licensing. These are concurrent licenses, meaning they can be installed on as many computers as needed, but a license server restricts the number of instances running at any given time to the number of copies ordered. it can't be used for commercial purposes. This is the commercial version of the software, but restricted to educational research only. The SolidWorks Research licenses offered here are for research.
